The instrument used is called a scoop and it is a sharp medical instrument which cuts off the lesions from the skin. The minimal blood loss which occurs is stopped by local compression.
Local anaesthesia is not necessary, but if the procedure is given to children, an anaesthetic cream can be applied 30 minutes before the procedure.
